How To Be Happy and Have an Empowering Life of Purpose: H.A.P.P.Y- Having A Purpose Power You

By KeithJK

We breathe air. We consume food. We expend energy. We reproduce. We do all these things to survive, to exist, but for many of us, that is all we do. If you feel incomplete and unsatisfied with your current life, this message is for you.

Birth of H.A.P.P.Y

While taking a Pursuit of Happiness course in college, one of the first assignments was to define what being 'happy' truly is. Some wrote a page, some wrote a full-length essay. I, on the other hand, wrote five simple words (Having A Purpose Power You) in 72 point font and turned it in. I didn't procrastinate and I wasn't being lazy, I simply abbreviated what I feel attributes to happiness. 5 words, 22 letters: I got an A.

The Meaning of Life

Purpose makes you jump out of bed in the morning. Purpose makes you not want to fall asleep at night. It's what you love and can't live without. It can be a job, a goal, a person, or anything that you're passionate about.

Ex: My purpose is to help others by spreading a positive message, to always make my smile contagious, and to be the best I can possibly be.

Without purpose, you have no identity, no meaning to live. We were all given a purpose. What is the meaning of life? It's an ambiguous question with 7 billion opinions, but it can be answered in 5 words, 22 letters.

Finding Your Purpose

It's never too early or too late to find your purpose. The time is now, so answer the following questions and leave the old you in this paragraph.

  1. If you couldn't fail, what would you do? -this will bring back the dreams that "reality" tried to erase.
  2. What do you want your tombstone to say? -this simplifies what you truly value.
  3. What do you want your obituary to read? -by summarizing your wanted accomplishments, you'll realize what goals you're passionate about.
  4. If you had to spend a whole day (24 hours straight) doing one thing, what would it be? -this will reveal the hobby you're most passionate about.
  5. What must you do before you die? -the bucket list will make you think long term.

I hope this helps renew your life. If anyone needs help piecing their answers together, don't hesitate to ask a question or send an email. My purpose is to help, so your helping me really.

Now, find your purpose, chase your potential, and live H.A.P.P.Y.

Having a purpose really does help to make life more tolerable (by which I mean the bad parts). For example, I work a crappy job that I hate more than anything, yet if I can make meaningful progress on my novel in the same day that I work, it makes me feel like that day had meaning (even though the time at work sucked). On the reverse side, if I don't work on my novel (or any writing in general), I feel as if my day has been wasted and I become moderately depressed/self defeating. It can be a vicious cycle if one doesn't actively work against it. Oh, and those are great questions at the end there; it's a great way for someone to single out their biggest interest. Great hub!

Wow, Keith. Good job. I am going to spend some time writing out the answers to these questions. Would it be okay if I wrote a hub about it?
